Andrew Balkin Editions mission is to produce intimate, technically refined and visually compelling limited editions of fine art prints.
Founded in 1978 by Andrew Balkin, A.G.B. Graphics Workshop was created to promote a studio experience in which artists could freely exchange ideas and share printmaking techniques. The workshop was originally dedicated to etching and has evolved to include lithography, relief-printing, and mono-printing.
In 1991, Andrew Balkin Editions, formally Andrew Balkin Publications, became the vehicle to invite artist of national reputation to promote a studio experience in which artists could freely explore their personal vision, exchange ideas and delve into the subtlety and complexity of printmaking techniques. Within that stimulating environment, the collaborative effort between artist and master printer became an integral part of the artwork itself. Andrew Balkin has produced etchings of museum quality by providing a technically sophisticated medium for artists who have not always been familiar with the nuances and potential of etching.
In the early years of Andrew Balkin Editions, etchings were published in portfolio format. Through the portfolio format, Balkin had established both a keen vehicle for creative competition as well as a bond for a creative community among the invited artist. The portfolios include AGB 1 + 10, agb Encore, and The Wisconsin Sesquicentennial Portfolio. These works have been collected by nationally known museums, including the National Museum of American Art-Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC, as well as purchased by public and private collectors.
Andrew Balkin Editions at AGB Graphics Workshop, was founded originally in Madison, Wisconsin. The workshop moved to its permanent location in the Town of Middleton. It is located on the Ice Age Trail tucked outside of Madison, on what was once a hundred acre farmstead. Andrew Balkin and invited artists find themselves on a charming farmette producing limited edition prints.
